Reading Rivers

As a psychology student, I enjoyed being asked to create a life river, a visual representation of defining moments in my life journey. I took that idea and tweaked it a bit, coming up with the idea of a Reading River.

There are twenty members in the year 6 book club and they are all very enthusiastic about books. In the first week, I asked them to create Reading Rivers where they thought about the very first picture books that were read to them, perhaps by a granny or a parent or teacher, followed by their favourite chapter books to this current day. They really engaged in this activity, working alone or in groups. Being able to do something visually is much more fun than writing a list of your all-time favourite books! Here are some pics of them in action.
