Book reviews by Black & White Inc. book club
Just a dog - by Michael Gerard Bauer
This book is about a very patient dog named Mister Mosely. Would you like to choose a book when you're a baby?
My favourite part of the story was when Mister Mosely got something stuck in his mouth. I liked that part because Mister Mosely got stuck halfway every time in the neighbour's garden. Well, Mister Mosely is a main character. Something about Mister Mosely is that in the dark he looks like a ghost with black spots.
This book is a chapter book and it is for animal lovers. I loved the book because it was all about him and I thought I was Mister Mosely. I say it was ten out of ten.

The Dare Game - by Jaqueline Wilson
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have no real home? Meet Tracy Beaker, a stubborn little girl with a fierce attitude. She was put into a children's home. (Tracy knows it as "the dumping ground") by her mum because she was too busy acting in Hollywood to look after her. Everyone is awful to this new girl, but one day, out of the blue, she gets adopted. She is overjoyed with her new foster mum. But not everything goes as planned ...
Join Tracy, football, Alexander, Cam and Carly on an adventure throughout her newest book. But when football and Tracy get into a fight, what happens to Alexander? Find out by reading this awesome book! And will Tracy ever see her beloved mum again? This chapter book about Tracy Beaker is one of Jaqueline Wilson's best novels yet. I recommend this book for girls, but boys would enjoy it too.

Hatchet book review
Hatchet – Gary Paulsen
What would you do if you survived a plane crash into the
vast Canadian wilderness with one prized possession, a hatchet? How would you
make a shelter? What would you eat? How would you fish without hook, line or
sinker?
Fire is necessary for warding off bears and wolves in the
night. Fire is essential for warmth, for cooking, and as a mosquito repellent –
but how would you start a fire without a single match?
Brian Robeson is a city boy whose only luck is surviving a
crash landing. The rest of his luck he has to make himself, by toughening up,
thinking things through, being patient and becoming very much one with the
natural environment.
Bear Grylls would be impressed at the courage and
determination shown by a thirteen year old city boy, battling to survive
against the fiercest of odds. This fictional adventure story is sure to delight
boys and girls, children and adults. It is slightly disturbing in places, but I
think you’re all mature enough to cope. So hop aboard the Cessna 406 bushplane
and get ready for the unexpected!

Well done to the children of Woodlands Park who have read so many books that we have adorned the entire library with paper-chains - where each link names a book read.
PS - Thank-you to those parents who have kindly offered to help out. I am looking for a few more volunteers, especially for the Wednesday afternoon, so please don't hesitate to contact me, even if you only have half an hour to spare. Thanks.
We have a wonderful Clifford suit too - do we have any volunteers to dress up!
